of Milton Berle" to be produced by Max Liebman for the Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences, New York Chapter, "Close-Up" Saturday
evening, March 7, in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria. (Not a telecast) .
Berle heads the NBC-TV Network colorcasts of "Milton Berle Starring in the Kraft Music Hall' (Wednesdays, 9 p.m., EST).
Academy President Robert F. Lewine, Vice President, NBC Tele¬ vision Network Programs, has "subpoenaed" Berle to attend the affair to defend himself against charges for his alleged crimes against the public during his 10-year reign as a TV comedian."
A stellar parade of witnesses will assemble for the mock trial - the TV Academy's first annual lampoon honoring a famous tele¬ vision figure. Appearing in sketches defending and maligning Uncle Miltie will be Steve Allen, Asia, Salvatore Baccaloni, Tallulah Bankhead, Dorothy Collins, Danny Dayton, Johnny Desmond, A1 Kelly,
Dorothy Kilgallen, Hal March, Martha Raye, Charles Scott, Arnold Stang and Ed Sullivan.
The original book and sketches have been written by noted comedy writers including several "Emmy" Award winners. The writers are Woody Allen, Jerry Bock, William Friedberg, Sheldon Harnick,
Shelley Keller, Woody Kling, David Rogers, Terry Ryan, Lou Salaman and Neil Simon. Rogers is script coordinator.
