NBC COLOR TELEVISION NEWS October 30, 1959 DANCE STARS MARGE AND GOWER CHAMPION WILL SHOW OWN INTERPRETATIONS OF GEORGE GERSHWIN MUSIC ON ’BELL TELEPHONE HOUR’ FRIDAY, NOV. 20 The dancing Champions, Marge and Gower, will show their own special interpretations of the music of George Gershwin when they appear on the "Bell Telephone Hour" Friday, Nov. 20 on the NBC-TV Network (8:30-9s30 p.m. EST). The full-hour special colorcast, which Gower Champion will stage and choreograph, will be devoted entirely to Gershwin’s music. Ira Gershwin, who wrote the lyrics for some of his brother's finest songs, will act as music consultant on the program. Singers Polly Bergen, Vic Damone and Ella Fitzgerald and pianist Andre Previn will also be featured on the telecast. All will be accompanied by Donald Voorhees and the Bell Telephone Orchestra. The Champions have proved that they were "born to dance" in virtually every field of entertainment - Broadway, motion pictures, television and nightclubs. Outstanding as individual dancers, they have merged their creative talents into one of the top dance teams of the country. Marge and Gower first met as classmates in a Los Angeles junior high school, but without any thought of dancing together. (more) PRESS DEPARTMENT, NATIONAL.
