A 'DIPLOMA 1 FOR EARLY A.M. VIEWERS A casual ad lib by WCSH-TV's weather man Ellis O'Brien in Portland, Me., after the Democratic convention coverage over NBC-TV ended one morning at 3:30 a.m., revealed later that a number of viewers were still tuned in. As O'Brien was giving a late news-and-weather report at about 3:^5 a.m. that morning, he commented that "anyone still up and watching deserves some sort of a medal or diploma, and if you'll write I'll see you get one." The mails brought responses from nearly 100 viewers and Station WCSH-TV made a special "diploma" making the viewers members of the "Co-axial Order of Channel Six Convention, News and Weather Watchers." BUSY SCHEDULE AHEAD FOR 'PLAINSMAN' ANSARA Michael Ansara, who portrays Deputy Marshal Sam Buckhart in "Law of the Plainsman" (NBC-TV Network, Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. EDT) has left Hollywood for Lawton, Okla., to star in "Indian Paint," a feature color film about Indians. The film is financed by Oklahoma citizens. Ansara portrays an Indian chief in the film. Fighting between white and red men is noticeable for its absence in the storyline. Shooting on the film will be interrupted Aug. 19 to enable Ansara to fly to Springfield, Ill., where he and his wife, actress Barbara Eden, headline the Illinois State Fair for a week. o NBC-New York, 8/8/60
