Garrett And Clu Gulager as Billy the Kid on NBC-TV Barry Sullivan will star as Deputy Sheriff Pat P. Garrett and Clu Gulager as William H. Bonney, better known as Billy the Kid, in NBC-TV*s new half-hour Western adventure series, "Tall Man," which will have its premiere on Saturday, Sept. 10 (8:30-9 p.m. NYT) on the network. "Tall Man" will be sponsored by the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company through the William Esty Company Inc. advertising agency. Set in New Mexico during the turbulent period between 1870 and the turn of the century, "Tall Man" by drawing on both history and folklore will bring to TV the exciting adventures of the famous reallife characters. Sheriff Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Though close friends, each senses that eventually he must face the other in a showdown between lawman and bandit, for Sheriff Garrett regards a gun merely as a tool to be used when absolutely necessary, and Billy the Kid regards his gun as the means of making him the equal of any rival who can beat him by virtue of size, strength or cunning. During the time they avoid the inevitable day of reckoning, Garrett and Billy remain friendly rivals until the day when Billy’s bravado will draw him too deeply into a life of crime.
