NBC TELEVISION NETWORK NEWS June 7j 1961 WIDELY HAILED ’PROJECT 20' PRODUCTION OP ’THE GREAT WAR' TO HAVE ENCORE PRESENTATION ON NBC -TV TUESDAY, JULY 4, UNDER SPONSORSHIP OP THOMAS J. LIPTON INC. The "Project 20" production of "The Great War, " generally hailed by critics as a convincing demonstration that there is no greater drama than history, will be encored on the NBC-TV Network Tuesday, July 4 ( 10-11 p.m. EDT) . This will be the first revival of the television classic since its premiere Oct. 16, 1956. The Independence Day broadcast will be under sponsorship of Thomas J. Lipton, Inc. Told from the American viewpoint, the program re-creates World War I through rare archive film, narration, and nostalgic music of the era. Its focal point: the tremendous turn in American life which saw the nation burst out of isolation and onto the world stage. It has "sledgehammer impact, " one newspaper said. "Absorbing TV entertainment," "intensely absorbing and frighteningly realistic," "powerful," "big-time factual drama," and "a magnificent production" were additional press comments. "Project 20" researchers combed film archives and private collections in five countries for historical footage that would take a TV audience back and put it in the 1914-1918 period, just as though it had been personal witness to all of the events.
