July 24, 1961 SPECIAL NBC NEWS PROGRAMMING MARKS CONTINUED REPORTING OP GRISSOM'S SPACE FLIGHT BY NBC-TV AND RADIO NETWORKS NBC News continued its coverage of America's second astronaut flight with special programming Saturday, July 22 on the NBC-TV and NBC Radio Networks. The news conference at which Air Force Capt. Virgil I. Grissom discussed his July 21 303-mile space flight was carried live on NBC Television and NBC Radio from 6 to 7 p.m. EDT July 22. The conference was held at the Starlite Motel in Cocoa Beach, Fla., news headquarters for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The last 10 minutes of the program, imme¬ diately after the conference, were devoted to commentary by NBC News correspondents Herb Kaplow and Peter Hackes there and correspondent William Ryan in NBC's New York studios. An "NBC Special News Report" sponsored by the Gulf Oil Corporation was presented on the NBC-TV Network July 22 from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. EDT. Films were shown of the arrival of the astronauts at Patrick Air Force Base, near Cape Canaveral, Fla., upon their return from Grand Bahamas Island, and the re¬ union of Capt. Grissom with his wife and sons. The program included official NASA film - not pre¬ viously presented in NBC's extensive coverage of the space flight - of Capt.
