4 JACK TRACY ROOM 320 NB C TRADE NE^T^T May 1, 1963 GULF OIL WILL SPONSOR NBC NEWS’ TV SPECIALS ON EDUCATIONAL 'EXPERIMENT IN EXCELLENCE' AND TRAINING OF PRO QUARTERBACK NBC News will present a full-hour special examining significant revolutions in education, and another full-hour program on the training of a young professional quarterback of the New York Giants, on the NBC -TV Network next Fall. Both specials will be sponsored by the Gulf Oil Corporation. The order was placed through Young & Rubicam Inc. The program on education, tentatively titled "An Experiment in Excellence," will be televised Thursday, Sept. 19 (10-11 p.m. EDT). The football program, "The Making of a Pro," which will examine the promising career of all-American Glynn Griffing, will be broadcast Sunday, Dec. 15 (10-11 p.m. EST). This program will be in color. "An Experiment in Excellence" will center on Pittsburgh, Pa. Producer Robert Northshield said Pittsburgh's school authorities have installed teaching innovations with greater success than anywhere else. The show will look into "team teaching," teaching with TV, teaching machines and the education of pupils who are not graded. The filming will be directed by producer Frank De Felitta.
