NBC NEWS COVERS PRESIDENT KENNEDY'S EUROPEAN TOUR WITH 18 SPECIAL TELECASTS, SUPPLEMENTED BY MOST EXTENSIVE USE OF COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITES
Supplemented by the most extensive use of the communications satellites, NBC News covered President Kennedy's 11-day European tour with a total of 18 special TV reports.
These included eight telecasts of Relay and Telstar satellite transmissions from Europe, all but one of these feeds containing tapes of the President as he appeared publicly in Germany, Ireland, England and Italy. A live satellite pickup from Europe showed the President as he addressed the Irish Parliament June 28.
NBC News will also present a full-hour color TV special reviewing the tour and evaluating its accomplishments Friday, July 5 (7^30 p.m. EDT) .
NBC News assigned 52 staff correspondents, writers, camera¬ men, technicians and supervisory personnel throughout Europe. The staff followed the President each day, recording his visit on tele¬ vision tape and film, the latter frequently sent to the U. S. by the NBC -BBC slow-scan trans-Atlantic cablefilm process. The "Today" show made repeated use of the cable-film, showing the President at various functions only hours after they actually took place abroad.
Starting Sunday, June 23, NBC News presented special programs each evening, ranging from 15 to 30 minutes and capsuling President Kennedy's activities that day by film and tape, the latter usually received via a satellite transmission. The evening programs
