'FLIPPER' SERIES BEGINS WITH DOLPHIN A HERO IN GETTING PLASMA TO PATIENT
"300 Feet Below" will be the premiere episode on "Flipper, " NBC-TV's new adventure series in color about the relationship between two boys and a precocious dolphin, Saturday, Sept. 19 (7:30-8 p.m. EDT) .
The series stars Brian Kelly as widower Porter Ricks, an underwater ranger in Florida's Coral Park Marine Preserve; Luke Halpin as Sandy, 13, and Tommy Norden, as Bud, 9, Porter's two sons; and, of course. Flipper the dolphin. The series is sponsored by Mattel Toy Co. through Carson/Roberts Inc.
In the opening segment. Porter rushes blood plasma in an effort to save the life of Dr. Darmon (William Traylor), who was attacked by a shark. But in transferring the container to Darmon' s boat, it accidentally falls into the ocean's depths. Flipper, who has been taught to retrieve by Bud and Sandy, is called on to save the doctor's life.
Ivan Tors is executive producer for the series which is filmed in Florida. Leon Benson is producer-director. Associate producer Ricou Browning, noted scuba diver, is in charge of underwater operations. The series is produced by MGM-TV in association with NBC.
