NBC NEWS BROADCASTING’S LARGEST NEWS ORGANIZATION August 26, 1964 WIPE OP NBC SOUNDMAN HUGH G. GLASSFORD INJURED IN SAIGON BOMB EXPLOSION The wife of an NBC News soundman, Mrs. Hugh G. Glassford, suffered minor injuries yesterday (Aug. 25) when a bomb exploded in the Caravelle Hotel in Saigon, where she and her husband were staying. Mrs. Glassford, who is in Saigon on vacation, suffered cuts and bruises from flying glass and debris. Authorities in Saigon are looking for a man believed to be a terrorist for the Vietcong, who checked into the hotel room, apparently just long enough to set the bomb. The Caravelle is the unofficial residence of NBC News staff members when in Saigon and the room in which the bomb exploded has been used by correspondents John Rich and James Robinson. In the hotel when the bomb exploded were Glassford, correspondent John Sharkey and cameramen Andrew Pearson and Larry Travis. Earlier this month, NBC News correspondent Alvin Rosenfeld was seriously wounded in the head while covering the civil war on Cyprus. He is being treated in a hospital in Israel. o PRESS DEPARTMENT, NATIONAL BROADCASTING COMPANY, 30 ROCKEFELLER PLAZA NEW YORK, N. Y. 10020
