NBC-TV NEWS LOTS OF BIG DOINGS FOR * HOWDY DOODY' TENTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION DEC. 28 On Saturday, Dec. 28, the tenth anniversary of NBC-TV1 s HOWDY DOODY, a gala TV party is planned. At that time Howdy will have reached his 2,200th performance. Western star Gabby Hayes will be a special guest. Howdy’s birthday party show, which will also have as guests the 10 semi-finalists in Howdy's current "Smile" contest, will be a full-hour show (10 to 11 a.m., EST) instead of its usual half-hour. Producer Roger Muir reports wide response to "Howdy Doody's" contest to find the child with the "most winning smile in America." After just two announcements of the contest on two successive "Howdy Doody" shows, over 60,000 smiling photographs have been received.
