'FORD STARTIME 1 COLORCAST Audie Murphy and Thelma Ritter to Star in fThe Man, 1 TV Adaptation of Broadway Mystery-Melodrama Audie Murphy and Thelma Ritter have been signed to co-star in the "Ford Startime" colorcast for Tuesday, Jan. 5 (9:30-10:30 p.m. EST), a TV adaptation of the 1950 Broadway stage play, "The Man," about a widow who takes a psychopathic killer into her home. The mystery-melodrama will be directed by Robert Stevens and adapted by James Cavanaugh from the play by Mel Dinelli. The producer will be Robert Northshield. Hubbell Robinson is executive producer (for Hubbell Robinson Productions, Inc.) of the "Startime" series. The Broadway version of "The Man" starred Lillian Gish and was produced by Kermit Bloomgarden. Stevens, an Emmy Award winner, has directed many major TV series, including "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Twilight Zone" and "Playhouse 90." Miss Ritter, a veteran of many TV, Broadway and motion pic¬ ture hits, is currently co-starring with Rock Hudson and Doris Day in the film, "Pillow Talk." Murphy, a Congressional Medal of Honor winner and the most decorated soldier of World War II, made his TV dramatic debut on NBC-TV in 1957 on "Suspicion." He has starred in numerous motion pictures, including the 1959 film productions of "The Quiet American," "Ride a Crooked Mile" and "The Gun Runners."
