NEWS January 2, 1959 Attention, Sports Editors TOP KEGLERS TO COMPETE IN 'PHILLIES JACKPOT BOWLING,’ NEW SPORTS SHOW WITH LEO DUROCHER AS EMCEE, ON NBC -TV NETWORK "Phillies Jackpot Bowling," a new sports program with Leo Durocher as emcee, will be presented on the NBC-TV Network immediately after the Friday boxing telecasts, starting Friday, Jan. 9 (approx¬ imately 10:45 p.m. , EST). The show will be sponsored by Bayuk Cigars, Inc., through Feigenbaum and Wermen Advertising Agency, Inc., of Philadelphia. Each Friday two of the nation's top keglers will compete on "Jackpot Bowling. " The one who can score the most strikos in nine rolls will receive $1,000 and will return the next Friday night to face a new opponent. A special jackpot of $5,000 will go to the bowler rolling six straight strikes, with the jackpot amount increas¬ ing \>y $1,000 each time the prize is not won. Additional prizes will be awarded on some shows for trick bowling feats. In the initial match Jan, 9 Junie McMahon of River Edge, N, J., a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame, will compete against Carmen Salvino of Chicago, former national doubles champion. On Friday, Jan. 16 the Jan. 9 winner will oppose Lindy Faragalli of Paterson, N. J., American Bowling Congress all-events champion in 1958.
