THE “SCIENTIST’S” OPTICAL LANTERN.
(newton’s patent.)
This lantern was introduced in response to a desire expressed by some lecturers for a single lantern having as many as possible of the advantages of the “ Scientist’s ” Bi-Unial, and is exactly like the top lantern of No. 8363. In this form the advantage of the tilting arrangement is preserved, and the front is removable for parallel beam work.
For travelling scientific lecturers for whom the cost of the “ Scientist's ” Bi-Unial is too great, this instrument is strongly recommended as most satisfactory for all-round work. The jet recommended for use with the above is No. 8102, page 25.

THE “SCIENTIST’S” BI-UNIAL LANTERN ON LATHE-BED BASE.
This lantern was designed with the courteous assistance of Andrew Pringle, Esq., for use at the Koyal Veterinary College.
In principle it is similar to No. 8363, but is made entirely in teak with brass front and fittings, and is mounted on a lathe-bed base, which gives great freedom of move¬ ment, while ensuring accurate centring.
Wright & Newton’B patent lantern microscope, No. 8386, page 58, can be used on the lower lantern if required.
An adjusting table is provided for the support of apparatus which it is desired to project.
This lantern is intended to be used in a fixed position. It is not very portable, and is unsuitable for carrying about to lectures in various places.
