INSTRUMENTAL QUARTETS 29 NUMBER 31777 31772 5754 5750 31756 5756 31760 31773 5770 SIZB Blue Danube Waltz 12 “ On the Beautiful Blue Danube ” is, of course, foremost among the Strauss waltzes, and in Vienna is esteemed more than any other musical composition, being played on every occasion and always meeting with enthusiasm. This new waltz record is a perfect reproduction of some of the most brilliant and spirited playing imaginable. Bridal Song — Brautlied ( From “ Rustic Wedding Symphony ”) Goldmark 12 One of the most beautiful portions of the third movement of Goldmark’s work. Charming as are other espisodes in this melodious symphony — the Serenade, the fourth movement, “In the Garden,” for instance — it is the gaiety and tenderness of this Brautlied which appeals most to the listener. Barcarolle — Les Contes d’ Hoffman Offenbach 10 This favorite “Barcarolle” is exquisitely played, with a graceful light¬ someness wholly charming. Chant sans paroles. ( Song Without Words ) Tschaikowsky 10 Little need be said about the Chant sans paroles, as it is among the half dozen best known short pieces by the Russian composer. It is grace¬ fully played by this excellent organization. Danse Caprice (Op. 28, No. 3) Grieg 12 A familiar and highly popular number — one of the most charming of Grieg’s lighter compositions, upon which, rather than his sonatas and dramatic works, most of his popularity with the general public depends. This Danse Caprice is from the book of Album Leaves (Opus 28), and it has been pronounced quite as good as any of the Chopin waltzes. Dollar Princess Medley Leo Fall 10 The records by the Vienna Quartet have been highly successful, pleasing not only audiences who prefer classical music, but those who like their popular music artistically played. The Dollar Princess is the most successful musical production of the season and is likely to run for a year in New York. Poeme Erotique Grieg 12 The quartet gives a masterly rendition of the Grieg number, a beautiful composition frequently heard in concert. Southern Roses Waltz Johann Strauss 12 It was the great composer, Johannes Brahms, who, at one of Mme. Strauss’ birthday parties, wrote on her autograph fan a few bars of a Strauss waltz, and underneath “ Regretfully, not by Johannes Brahms.” Listening to this beautiful waltz one sometimes feels the same regret at not being the composer of such delightful music, which has given pleasure to so many millions of hearers. But after all, the way in which a Strauss waltz is played is of the utmost importance, and it is here that the Vienna players excel, for a more charming performance of this delicious Rosen aus dem Suden could not be imagined. Serenade Pierne 10 One of the prettiest and most graceful of violin solos, by a writer who is famous as a composer of charming melodies. Pierne’s well-known num¬ ber is doubly attractive when it is given as the Vienna players have rendered it.
