Ballyhoo (1952-61) was published by Famous Players Canadian Corporation as a mimeographed internal sales and theatre managers’ newsletter. Editor, Dan Krendel, had been division manager of the Ontario ‘B’ District since 1942, and initially created Ballyhoo in 1952 to circulate weekly updates for a regional sales contest. Ontario ‘B’ District Ballyhoo continued until 1955 as a tool for sharing and incentivizing new sales techniques and publicity methods as the movie business declined in the face of television and the baby boom.

In Fall 1955, Profit Blitz for ‘Fitz’ was a nationwide sales contest, named for Famous Players’ president J. J. Fitzgibbons, honouring his 25th year as head of the business. Dan Krendel was made National Drive Captain and edited a weekly newsletter for the campaign.

From 1956 until at least 1957, National Ballyhoo was published weekly with Krendel as editor. He continued the style and content developed earlier for his Ontario ‘B’ District, but now extended vastly for a chain-wide coast to coast scale. Ballyhoo’s sharing promotional tools came at a time of contracting box office as television and automobile ownership became prevalent in the mid-1950s.

By 1960 until at least 1961, Time Out for Ticket Talk continued as a mimeographed newsletter, edited by Norman Barker of the head office publicity department. Time Out was compiled on a less ambitious scale than Ballyhoo. Compared to the earlier national compilation of local publicity gimmicks, Time Out often contained only a single memo or reproduced local story, and was often undated and only informally edited.

CAPITOL = NORTH BAY Let's see what Bob has to offer this week ... The feature, BASY TO LOVE ... First we see that North Bay Confections paid for another 2,000 heralds, which were distributed at the theatre, and by the Nugget's carriers, Pat!s Restaurant featured an EASY TO LOVE sundac, on special place cards printed for the occasion, giving liberal mention to theatre and attractions. An excellent newspaper ad was secured with North Bay Garage in the classified section, reading "It's so BASY TO LOVE a North Bay Garage used car" ete, White Bros. ran a quarter page ad, tieing in EASY TO LOVE with their new washing machines ... Pat's Restaurant also donated a pretty fair portion of their 200 line ad, to feature title and theatre credits. One of Bob's usherettes paraded the Main street, woaring a large paper apron lettered "Its 80 EASY to drop your apron ooo BASY to leave the dishes ... SO EASY to see EASY TO LOVE" otc. Leave it to Robert to think up a novel and inexpensive street bally. Good windows were put in for Bob by Bannon Bros, Hosken and Prested, Economy Shop and White Bros., and this time they were really window displays, not just attraction cards. Attaboy, boy. Now to turn to radio ballyhoo ... Bob received daily mention on the North Bay Confections program .o. theatre credits on the North Bay Garage program, and special plugs on the C F C "Hollywood in Review" daily programs, which mentioned a different star each day, with accompanying music by Tony Martin. And that looks like it from our Robert oo. You keep piling up the points Mr. "Q" and you’re liable to wind up in the number one spot for May ... Would you like that? XoKoSook Among the missing this week are Jack Bridges, Jack Ward, and, and. it’s getting a little monotonous oo. Jerf.o Can't win any prizes or recognition that wa,, fellows oo. I know it takes a lot of thought and effort Ro cEet @ sandwich man out on the street ooo buy, even that will get you into these pages ooo Or, maybe you just don't eare .oo what? Anyway, it's good to see that the majority of our gang are really trying ... could be they can try just a little bit harder .oo but at least they're contributing somekhing ... You know guys ovo all you have w# do is copy what some of our lads have done in the past ... 14's all in these pages. Thumb through a few back copies ... Maybe you'll come up with something.
