PRIMING THE PUMP
Have you ever tried to pump water from a well? ... It wheezes and groans, and battles you every inch of the way ... and finally, in desperation, you pour a few eup-fulis of water down the shaft of the pump, and lo and behold, gallons of eold, clear aqua come gurgling happily out the spont.
There's a moral in there somewhere ... Nothing in thia world comes free ... To get, you must GIVE ... If you want results, you must give forth with honest, unrestricted effort. Lsat's be honest about it ... You ean only enjoy tha f£ruits of your labours if you really LABOUR for then. There's a satisfaction in attelining hoped-for results ... but you won't enjoy it by merely sitting back and hoping.
Business may be good in your particular spot, and I kike to think it is so because of the attention you pay to your operation ... the advance planning you do on each incoming attraction ... The excellent Public Relations you naintain with all the important people in your town ... The physical effort you apply to the earning of your daily bread. In some instances business is gaod only because conditions generally dn the area are good ... but what happens when there is a sudden reversal, and black figures start turning a bright crimson? ... Do you just sit back and start thinking up exsuses?
OR ... do you dig right in and start PRIMING THE PUMP ... for ali you're warth? The end result must be in direct ratio te the amount of priming that you do.
Our new contest is now under way ... Don't treat it as just another contest ... a temperary test ef skill ... a drive fer more business, and prisea and recognition. Treat it rather as the means to an end .-.o an ebjective ... The feeling of pride and satisfaction ons derives from the knowledge that he is honest with himself ... his family and his cenpany.
Let's get in there ... ail of us, and do a real job of PRIMING THE PUMP ... watching the drops turn to a trickle = and the trickle te a fiood ... a flood of ideas, of Ballyhoo, of SHOWMANSHIP.
