Ballyhoo (1952-61) was published by Famous Players Canadian Corporation as a mimeographed internal sales and theatre managers’ newsletter. Editor, Dan Krendel, had been division manager of the Ontario ‘B’ District since 1942, and initially created Ballyhoo in 1952 to circulate weekly updates for a regional sales contest. Ontario ‘B’ District Ballyhoo continued until 1955 as a tool for sharing and incentivizing new sales techniques and publicity methods as the movie business declined in the face of television and the baby boom.

In Fall 1955, Profit Blitz for ‘Fitz’ was a nationwide sales contest, named for Famous Players’ president J. J. Fitzgibbons, honouring his 25th year as head of the business. Dan Krendel was made National Drive Captain and edited a weekly newsletter for the campaign.

From 1956 until at least 1957, National Ballyhoo was published weekly with Krendel as editor. He continued the style and content developed earlier for his Ontario ‘B’ District, but now extended vastly for a chain-wide coast to coast scale. Ballyhoo’s sharing promotional tools came at a time of contracting box office as television and automobile ownership became prevalent in the mid-1950s.

By 1960 until at least 1961, Time Out for Ticket Talk continued as a mimeographed newsletter, edited by Norman Barker of the head office publicity department. Time Out was compiled on a less ambitious scale than Ballyhoo. Compared to the earlier national compilation of local publicity gimmicks, Time Out often contained only a single memo or reproduced local story, and was often undated and only informally edited.

I see & number of good co-rop ads ... not Large ones, trua, but each and every one has direct reference to WOMAN'S WORLD ... some with good art culled frem the pressbook. Listing them in erder of appearance, I see ..-. Fern Cottage Rastaurant ... MeDowelil Motors ... Biil's Radio and Appliances ... Music Box ... Snow White Laundry ... Shaheen’s Ladies’ Wear ... dJoyeo's Candy Shop and the Elna Sewing Machine Shop. Quite an array, what? Snow White Laundry alse ran a contest, with $300.00 worth of prizes for the winners ... to be drawn fer from the stage of the Yietory. Woolworth's, Kresge's, Smart Set Dress Shoppe and Mike's super market each turned over 500 shopping bags to dack ... Ha purchased another 500, had special ono-foot square stickers printed and placed on the bags, ali of which were distributed by the abevec mentioned merchants o.o Every customer making a purchase, had to haul it home in ons of Jack's bags ... How could anyone miss knowing what was doing at the Victory? Eliie's Dress Shop came through with five separate plugs eon Live consecutive days ever their daily program over C K G B occ Palmer Jewellers and Henry's pharmacy each matched the above, netting Jack a total of fifteen good radio spots. Moisley and Ball played the title recording continuously ever their street loud speaker during the run ... the loeal Musie Box, ditto. Not a bad campaign Jack ... and leoks Like it's bound te net you a few vaiuable points. £ still can't figure cut a couple ef weeks so you may miss out on the monthly bonus .o.. although L've squared you for November. Just noticed your postscript Jack o.oo and am very sorry that there has been some illness in your family. I should heave known there was a good reason for your not being in every week.
