At the commencement of the new year it is our intention to publish this journal on the 1st instead of the r5th of the month. This alteration will take place on January 1, 1890. Notes. Just before going to press we have been particularly requested by Mr. Friese Greene to delay publishing the description of his camera until after its exhibition at the Royal Society, by which time all patent arrangements will have been completed. 2 2 x SEVERAL sections of Florida’(U.S.A.) are shortly to be advertised, Mr. G. W. Shear being about to start on a lecturing tour to describe the beauties and advantages of that State. Numerous lantern slides have been prepared for the purpose of illustrating these lectures, which will doubtless be of a very interesting nature. bd 2 *% ® ACCORDING to lately published accounts, the results of recent experiments in Russia in connection with the making of gas from Caspian petroleum have been of a very satisfactory character. This new gas possesses five times the illuminating power of ordinary gas, is of a very white colour, and produces no smoke. * * 2 In Paris. firemen are provided with cylinders of oxygen under pressure, to be used for the prompt relief of persons suffocated during fires. The oxygen is added to the regular supply of medicines which is always at hand in case of accidents. * * * Tue remarks which we published in our last issue, under the heading of A Startling Optical Novelty, referring to some recent improvements in which the Optical Lantern plays a prominent part, have been copied and widely circulated by the daily and weekly newspapers both at home and abroad.
