Opaque Folding Screen.— A lantern screen which is opaque, yet may be folded, can be easily made as follows:—Wash the sheet in pure water without soap or soda, and stretch down on a clean floor. When nearly dry brush on the following mixture as evenly as possible with a soft distemper brush :—Soak 4 Ibs. best washed whiting in cold water for a couple of hours, pour off all superfluous water, take as much ultramarine blue as will lie on a penny, mix with a little water, and stir into. the whiting. Melt 4 Ibs. clear size almost to boiling point, then add a tablespoonful of boiled oil, and well stirin. Have ready 1 ounce soft soap and $ ounce alum dissolved in water in separate
