He was doing beautifully, when just as he reached the climax, Humphrey Bogart came over with six starlets. As he got to the table, he said to the service men, “I thought you fellows might like a dance.” And you can bet they did! Which left John sitting there, moutli agape — with his unfinished yarn! In the meantime, he has acquired a very i pretty wife who may accompany hinx. Anne Baxter’s family finally won out : with their opposition to J ohn Hodiak. Anne flew up to San Francisco where j her family is living and there the decision was made. John says nothing, I but close friends realize his deep hurt, i John’s loyalty to his Ukrainian family of good peasant stock is commendable I and Hollywood admires him for it. But I Anne, raised in a different environment and different family surroundings, may not fit into the Hodiak family atmosphere— Whence the decision to go sepai rate ways. But hearts may eventually i win out — Hollywood is waiting to see. j Sheila Ryan is very much on the upset side over her romance with Stephen Crane. Seems Sheila just can’t get over I the handsome Stephen, who isn’t marriage-minded these days. Sorry to report still another unhappy I romance, but Jeanne Crain’s family is j also protesting her romance with Paul Brook. Older by several years than Jeanne, Paul was an engineer at Lock! heed when Warners signed him. His resemblance to Errol Flynn is remarki able but that, of course, is not the reai son for the family’s objection. Too bad that Jeanne is so unhappy about the I whole thing.
