FRUIT BREAD
Photoplay’s Reader-Tested Lunch Box Recipes
GLAZED ORANGE CAKE
Makes one 10 inch tubecake Sift together twice:
3 cups sifted flour 3 teaspoons baking powder Dash of salt
Set aside.
Work with a spoon until soft:
1 cup butter or margarine
Gradually add while beating:
2 cups sugar
Beat until light and fluffy.
Add:
y2 teaspoon vanilla 2 tablespoons grated orange rind
Beat well.
Add, one at a time :
5 eggs
Beat well after each addition.
Add dry ingredients alternately with :
% cup milk
Blend well after each addition. Spoon into a lightly greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake in a moderate oven (350° F.) for 70-75 minutes. Allow cake to cool for 2 minutes then pour orange glaze evenly over cake and allow cake to cool thoroughly in the pan.
ORANGE GLAZE
Place in a saucepan :
% cup butter or margarine 2/3 cup sugar y3 cup orange juice
Cook over low heat stirring constantly until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved.

Plantation Casserole Celery Sticks Orange Cake Coffee or Milk
RIBBON LOAF
Makes one 9x5x3 inch loaf Measure into a large bowl :
2 pounds ground beef 1 cup fine dry bread crumbs
1 cup milk
2 eggs, slightly beaten
3 teaspoons melted butter
1 teaspoon bottled hot sauce 3 tablespoons ketchup
3 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons minced onion Mix well, using a two pronged fork. Divide in half and pat one half in a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
Place on top of meat mixture :
6 slices American cheese Cover with remainder of meat mixture. Bake in a moderate oven (350° F.) for about one hour. Cool and slice. Serve between slices of rye bread.

ASPARAGUS CHEESE SOUP
Makes 3 servings Combine in a saucepan :
1 can (IOV2 ozs.) asparagus soup
iy2 cups milk
Mix well.
Add:
y2 can (IOV2 ozs.) Cheddar cheese soup 1 beef bouillon cube
Mix well. Cook over low heat until bouillon cube is dissolved and soup is hot. Pour into vacuum bottle while still hot.

Asparagus Cheese Soup Deviled Ham Sandwich Fruit Bread Beverage
Makes one 9x5x3 inch loaf Sift together:
2 cups sifted flour 1 teaspoon soda y2 teaspoon salt

1 cup sugar Beat until light.

3 medium bananas, mashed
Blend well. Stir in dry ingredients, blending until smooth.

y2 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
y2 cup chopped maraschino cherries
y2 cup chopped walnuts
Mix well. Pour into a well greased and floured 9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Bake in a moderate oven (350° F.) for one hour.

PLANTATION CASSEROLE
Makes 4-6 servings Combine:
2 cups diced cooked chicken 1 package (10 ozs.) frozen peas and carrots, broken apart
1 can (1 lb.) corn, well drained y3 cup grated Cheddar cheese y2 cup milk
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt to taste Pepper to taste
Mix well. Turn into a greased 1 y2 quart casserole.
Sprinkle over:
y3 cup grated Cheddar cheese Open and separate:
1 package (8 ozs.) refrigerated ovenready biscuits
Arrange over cheese. Bake in a very hot oven (450° F.) for 25 minutes. Spoon into a wide mouth vacuum bottle.

VACUUM BOTTLE CAUTION
Fill vacuum bottle only to level below stopper. Never fill with carbonated beverages. Do not drink from vacuum bottle. Use cup provided. Do not pack ice cubes in vacuum bottle. They may break the glass liner. Always use a plastic spoon in wide mouth vacuum bottle. Metal spoon may cause breakage of glass liner. Wash and rinse bottle thoroughly after each use. Never place bottle in an automatic dishwasher.
