286 THE TALKING PICTURE Ronald Colman had one of his most congenial and successful roles as Sydney Carton in the 1935 screen version of A Tale of Two Cities. In this scene, Carton is descending from the tumbril on his way to the guillotine. The girl is Isabel Jewell. The picture was notable for the size and historical fidelity of its sets. Here is one of the film's most impressive sequences, the storming of the Bastille, as reconstructed by M-G-M.
