Among the actors who were playing supporting roles in films but later ecame more famous as directors were Herbert Brenon, who appeared in [vanhoe," and Rex Ingram, who was supporting Clara Kimball Young and illian Walker at Vitagraph. Theatres were showing the first adventure subject, Rainey's African Hunt" in nine reels. The films were shot by Paul J. Rainey, a 'ealthy Philadelphia sportsman, during one of his hunting expeditions. It was forerunner and paved the way for Martin Johnson's adventure films, Robert J. lahertv's "Nanook of The North," and Merian C. Cooper's "Grass" and "Chang." Hi ARTHUR V.
