LASKY, BESSIE BARRISCALE 1914 Later in the year Paramount Pictures Corporation was formed with Adolph Zukor at the head and Jesse Lasky as vicepresident to release the feature films of Famous Players, Lasky and Bosworth— a company that had been formed by Hobart Bosworth, an actor in early Selig films. William Fox, who had been a cloth sponger and had risen from his penny arcade business to a prominent exhibitor, decided to make films. The first Fox feature was "Life's Shop Window," made on Staten Island. It cost $4,500 and starred Claire Whitney and Stuart Holmes. Winfield Sheehan, a former reporter, joined the Fox organization.
