Harold Lloyd, with Bebe Daniels as his leading lady, was finding a receptive public with his "Lonesome Luke" comedies released by Pathe. Al Christie, who had been successful as producer of the Nestor comedies, formed the Al E. Christie Comedies and became the nearest competitor Mack Sennett ever had. His first release, on September 18, 1916, was "A Seminary Scandal" with Billie Rhodes and Harry Ham. Lloyd V. Hamilton and Bud Duncan were successful with their "Ham and Bud" series for Kalem. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew were making their delightful domestic comedies at Metro. Biograph's last gasp was a series of two-reelers starring Bert Williams, famous colored stage comedian. Frank Daniels, Kolb and Dill, Harry Watson, Jr. and George Ovey were other stage comics making films. ROBERT B.
