Erich Von Stroheim left "Merry-Go-Round" in the middle of production at Universal and Rupert Julian finished the film. Metro and Goldwyn consolidated as MetroGoldwyn and Von Stroheim signed with them and made "Greed," considered by many his best. Charles Ray put his own money into an elaborate historical picture, "The Courtship of Miles Standish," which was a failure and forced him into bankruptcy.
