Advertising Section 119 Dotty Dimples. — William Haines was reported engaged to the sister of Irving Thalberg, a Metro-Goldwyn executive — but you can't believe all you hear. No, Olive Borden and Janet Gaynor are not related. Olive was born in Virginia about twenty years ago. Janet Gaynor is about the same age and was born in Philadelphia. George Lewis was born in Mexico City. Yes, I think he and William Haines would both send you their photographs. Write them, respectively, Universal and MetroGoldwyn. Charlie Paddock doesn't play in films regularly; you might try him at Famous Players, the only company he has worked for. Lloyd Hughes lives at 601 South Rampart Street, Los Angeles. He was born in Bisbee, Arizona, October 21, 1897. Dot Stoll. — Thanks . for the good w ishes. I announced your club once, as you probably know by now, and space does not permit announcing the same club twice. I'd love to be on your honorary list, if I don't have any corresponding to do — that's my life work already. Daddy's Girl. — Do you really think I am so old? Well, I feel so this moment as I totter to my typewriter. But perhaps the tottering is left over from last night. Lillian Rich is married ; I don't know to whom. Her new picture is "Exclusive Rights." Malcolm McGregor is playing opposite Betty Compson in "Ladybird." Lloyd Hughes has been working on "An Affair of the Follies ;" Mary Brian opposite Ben Lyon in "High Hat," and No/ma Shearer with Lew Cody in "The DemiBride." Louise Fazenda's new ones are "Dearie," "Finger Prints," and "Simple Sis." I don't know in what order they will be released. Leatrice Joy's new film is "Nobody's Widow," and Robert Frazer's is "One Hour of Love." Bessie Love was born in Midland, Texas; she doesn't say when. A. D. S. — Those three letters spell money to a magazine ! Yes, I think Billie Dove is very beautiful. She is under contract to First National, and her new films are "The Sensation Seekers" and "An Affair of the Follies." Willia i Haines has been making "Slide, Kelly, Slide." He played the lead in Metro-Goldwyn's current special, "Tell It to the Marines." Anna Q. Nilsson is always busy, in First National pictures. Her late ones are "Midnight Lovers" and "Easy Pickings." I doubt if Norma Shearer played a minor role in "The Call of the Canyon." She is not listed in the cast, and I think she was too well known when that film was made to have played in it anonymously. Lois Wilson and Marjorie Daw played the leads. Dorothy Seastrom and Lura Anson both played small parts — perhaps you have one of them confused with Miss Shearer. Richard Dix, Noah Beery, Ricardo Cortez, Arthur Rankin were other well-known players in the very large cast. Slicums. — "Maybe you'll come again if you run up against something," you say. I'm not so sure I like that as a compliment. I hope it doesn't mean you have to get hit in the head to write. I think Louise Dresser is free lancing just now. If you haven't received Jack Hoxie's picture after writing him twice, it seems to me he's probably just lazy and has no secretary. He has been married for some years to Marin Sais. Isabel and Eileen Patrick Wilson. — Well, now that you ask, I do sometimes get tired of answering questions, but I really feel that I might get much more tired not having any questions to answer, nor any salary. Dick Talmadge makes pic tures constantly; his recent ones are "The Broadway Gallant," "The Better Man," "Doubling with Danger," and "The Black Rider." I don't know Dick's birthday. Richard Dix's next picture is "Knockout Reilly ;" John Gilbert's, "Twelve Miles Out." Rod La Rocque has the lead in "Resurrection." Cypres. — I'm glad you think PicturePlay is the best movie magazine ; we try to make it so. I can't tell you where all the old-timers are whom you ask about, but here is some information: Violet Heming plays on the legitimate stage almost entirely ; Alice Lake is in vaudeville. Niles Welch played on the stage all this season in "The Donovan Affair." The Novak sisters still play in films, for the smaller companies. The same is true of Frank Mayo, and of Grace Darmond. Yes, Louise Glaum has more or less retired. She was married in March, 1926, to Harry Zachary, whose business I don't know. Peggy Hyland was married some years ago to Fred Granville ; I understand she is living in England, and is divorced. Justine Johnstone is frequently seen at New York premieres with her husband, Walter V/anger, an executive of Famous Players, though she no longer appears on the screen. Edith Roberts is still playing in pictures. "The Mystery Club" and "Shameful Behavior" are her most recent films. William Farnum's return to the stage was announced about a year ago, but nothing came of it, unless he is playing on tour somewhere. The others you ask about all seem to have dropped out of sight — probably they have retired. I can't remember the character name of Julio's sister in "The Four Horsemen;" the cast, of course, was enormous. Kathleen Key played Georgette, Virginia Warwick played Chichi* and Mabel van Buren was Elena. Universal is to make "Show Boat," with Mary Philbin. * A Lois Moran Film Club has just been formed. Any one interested may get in touch with the president, Gloria Greenhill, 619 East Fifth Street, New York City. Cuddles C. — Is Cuddles used as a noun or a verb? George Lewis was born in Mexico City. Arthur Rankin free lances, and I have no idea where to suggest your writing him. I know very little about Arthur except that he is related to Doris Rankin, Lionel Barrymore's former wife. A Harrison Ford Club — another one! — wishes to be announced. The president is Elizabeth Sumner, 2357 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit, Michigan, and the secretary, Marv Monberg, 2957 Pasadena Avenue, Detroit. P. J. S. — Alice Terry was born in Vincennes. Indiana, and is therefore American. She has played in pictures about seven years, and is in her late twenties. John Barrymore is also American. L. W. — Aren't you faithful, with Thomas Meighan as your favorite all these years ! He has been married ever since I first heard of him, so I don't know how old he was when the great event took place. He is now forty-seven. He has played in pictures about twelve years, but I've no idea what his first film was. He used to be one of Norma's leading men ; I remember him in her early picture, "The Forbidden City." "The Thunderbolt" was produced about 1919. The Bebe Daniels Club — shouldn't it be "A" instead of "The"? — wants to be announced. Those wishing to join may write to the club president, Charles Callender, 857 Station Place, Berkeley, California. The Brand of a Good Book wmm\\ iii:::;in * This was Julio's sister.
