The thrilling climax of the picture — British Commandos raid the Norwegian village where the hero, Colin Metcalfe, a• Fleet Street reporter, is hiding after guiding our bombers to the near-by U-boat base. The G erm an s are rounded up, the Norwegian hostages, taken as a reprisal since the Norwegians refuse to give up Colin to the Gestapo, are rescued, and Colin and Kari, his Norwegian sweet- heart, sail to England. This sequence, by a coincidence, was made shortly before British Commandos made their memorable raid on Vaagso (Soskin) Ralph Richardson was given leave from his duties as lieutenant- commander in the Fleet Air Arm, to star in this dramatic story of Norway during the present war. The story begins in the period just prior to the Nazi invasion. Ralph Richardson, as Lockwood, a famous war reporter, meets Hugh Williams, as Colin Metcalfe, in an Oslo hotel. On Lockwood's recommendation, Colin has been sent to Norway as foreign correspondent, but Lockwood has to tell him that he has been fired for missing scoops, not knowing that Colin is in possession of vital informa- tion and is already followed by the Gestapo. Kid- napped by the Gestapo, Colin is aboard a German ship when Norway falls. He is rescued by a British destroyer, and on his return to England, finds himself in the midst of more hazardous excitements that culminate in him being dropped in Norway by parachute and guiding British bombers to a U-boat base. Francis L. Sullivan as Wettau, the Nazi consul, threatens Deborah Kerr as Kari, the Norwegian girl whose patriotism and love for Colin spur her to risk her life opposing Nazi and Quisling rule. 88
