The summers he spent in New York trying to impress theatrical managers—- with no success until he tackled David Belasco and the producer, without even mentioning the word experience, made him assistant stage manager and understudy to Lynne Overman in “ Dancing Partner.” Later he got a job with the man who brought him to films and fame—Orson Welles. He became a member of Welles’ Mercury Theatre group. He made a stage hit opposite Katharine Hepburn in “ The Philadelphia Story.” His film role in “ Citizen Kane ” followed. He has also been in “ Lydia ” and “ The Magnificent Ambersons.” He stands 6ft. 2 ins. and is brown-haired.
