At college she specialised in designing, art, and music. Richard Travis owes his “ discovery ’’ to Bette Davis. He was bom William Justice in Paragould, Arkansas, and was doing publicity and art poster work for the Majestic Theatre in his native town before going to Hollywood. In Hollywood he rode miles and miles—usually out of camera range—in Westerns. When the Warner studios cast him in a short entitled “ Here Comes the Cavalry,” Bette Davis saw the picture and choose him as her leading man in “ The Man Who Came to Dinner.” Natalie Thompson, “ discovered ” in one of Hollywood’s little theatres, made her debut in “ Cash and Carry,” followed by “ The Vanishing Virginian.” She was bom in Cleveland, Ohio.
