It relates the adventures of a gallant knight in gathering the ransom for the release of his King, Richard, from an Austrian prison, when the ransom has been refused by Prince John, who hopes, with the support of the Normans, to seize the throne of England. Lady Rowena, Wamba the Jester (Emlyn Williams) dnd Ced- ric the Saxon (Finlay Currie) offer chill hospitality to Sir Brian de Bois Guil- bert and Sir Hugh de Bracy (Robert Douglas). Above, right: Sir Brian de Bois Guilbert (George Sanders), mortally wounded in a jousting match by Ivanhoe, asks Rebecca (Elizabeth Taylor) for forgiveness. Rebecca's old father, Isaac (Felix Aylmer), Ivanhoe and Rowena (Joan Fontaine) are witnesses of the dying man’s request. Below, right : Prince John (Guy Rolfe) with Sitzurse (Basil Sydney) on his right hand, plans treachery as he watches Norman and Saxon knights jousting at a tournament.
