Fast Life, in which he is seen here with Loretta Young, was shown in 1930, when he was making a lot of the light sophisticated type of films of the jazz age, and it was one of his earliest talkies. Loretta Young also made her film debut in silent films, when she was only just in her teens. Like Douglas Fairbanks, she has appeared in a wide variety of roles, one of the latest being her co-starring part with Joseph Cotten in Half Angel, a fantastic comedy. Lovely Irene Dunne came to the screen from the musical comedy stage and scored a big hit in her second film, Cimarron, a dramatic spectacular Western starring the late Richard Dix. She has been a tremendous favourite ever since. She has gained in beauty, poise and skill with every year and crowned her years of effort with her portrayal of Queen Victoria in The Mudlark. Pat O’Brien, seen here with her in her first starring film, Married in Haste, which was his own third film, made his film debut in the talking film version of The Front Page, the play in which he had scored a hit on the Broadway stage. He has been on the screen ever since and his roles have gradually changed to suit his maturity, recent parts being in Criminal Lawyer and The People Against O'Hara, with Spencer Tracy. A star whose performance and popularity have grown with the years is Gary Cooper. Coming to the silent screen as a lanky young cowboy in The Winning of Barbara Worth, he has ^ Ji since appeared in almost everything from sophisticated comedy to deep tragedy. Lately he has been making Jk outdoor adventure films; most recent being Dallas and Distant Drums, a story of the Indian wars in the Florida K swamps.
