Below : At the premiere of “ The Teahouse of the A ugust Moon," Glenn Ford, whom vou may recall as one of its amusing stars, and his wife, formerly danc- ing star Eleanor Powell, greeted the Japanese flower girls. At the same premiere were seen promising newcomer John Kerr and his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Gable seen at the star-studded Holly- wood premiere of" The Spirit of St. Louis." Another loudly acclaimed group at the premiere of “ The Spirit of St. Louis," were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cooper, their daughter Maria, and Anthonv Perkins. Jerry Lewis and his wife, Patti, are seen at the premiere of Friendly Persuasion, which starred Gary Cooper, who is also seen attending the Spirit of St. Louis premiere with his wife, Veronica, and daughter Maria, who was escorted by Anthony Perkins, the brown-eyed and brown-haired young actor who is soaring to fame with great speed. He has just made Desire Under the Elms, with Sophia Loren, the beautiful Italian star. At the same premiere Clark Gable escorted his wife, formerly Kay Spreckels. Clark Gable, who has been acting since 1931, has won great popularity this year for his work in the latest wide-screen version of Gone With The Wind, as successful now as it was on its first release fifteen years ago. The first night of The Teahouse of the August Moon —at Hollywood Pantages Theatre—drew a big crowd. Among them was Glenn Ford, who shared with Marlon Brando in making the film a triumphant success. He arrived with his wife, who until 1950 delighted us as dancing star Eleanor Powell. Newcomer John Kerr was also there with his wife, Priscilla, whom he married in 1952. The admirers of John Kerr's work in Gaby, The Cobweb and The Vintage, were delighted to see him in his much-acclaimed role with Deborah Kerr in Tea and Sympathy, adapted from the play in which he scored on the Broadway stage. Blonde and blue-eyed Eva Marie Saint, who won an Academy Award for her first film appearance in On the Waterfront in 1954, was there with her husband, and they were caught by the photographer talking to Mr. and Mrs. Marty Melcher—Mrs. being Doris Day, whose popularity increases with every film she makes, and who follows her dramatic role in Julie with another singing and dancing role in The Pajama Game. Vera-Ellen had returned from England, where she made Let's Be Happy, and appeared with her husband, Victor Rothschild, whom she married in 1954. Eva Marie Saint and her husband, Jeffrey Hayden, are seen at the left in the picture below, with Doris Day and her husband, Marty Melcher, at the premiere of " The Teahouse of the August Moon." Vera-Ellen and her husband, Victor Rothschild, also attended the premiere of “ The Teahouse of the August Moon," at which Vera-Ellen said a few words into the microphone.
