Below: Doris Day and her husband Marty Melcher cele- brated the glamorous premiere of ” Raintree County " marked by a great turn-out of stars, executives and civic and society leaders. Just before Jayne Mansfield came to England in 1958, she opened her pink swimming pool and christened the opening and the pool with pink champagne. Another fair haired star who has won tremendous popularity for her singing is Doris Day, seen here at the Raintree County premiere. She began her career by dancing, but a nearly fatal car accident put an end to that for over a year, during which time she took voice training. It was as a singer that she made her first film bow in It’s Magic, seen here in 1949. In 1958 she appeared in two films, one singing and one a straight comedy— The Pajama Game and Teacher’s Pet. In Tunnel of Love she sings again. Perhaps she intends to do alternative singing and straight roles. Frankie Vaughan you may know as a new singer who was put on the screen by Anna Neagle in These Dangerous Years. He is seen here with his young son and he also has a daughter. Ernest Borgnine, who won the 1955 Academy Award as the best actor of the year for his superb playing of the title role in Marty, has since been seen in several films. Violent Saturday, The Last Command, The Square Jungle, Jubal, Wedding Breakfast, The Best Things in Life are Free and Three Brave Men. Not long ago he travelled to Norway to make The Vikings with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis. Those of you who saw Heart of a Child must have been enchanted by Rudi, the great St. Bernard dog who played a leading role in it. Whether you live near a studio or not, it is pretty certain that at some time or other, you may be able to see a star. Margaret Griffith and Rudi, the huge St. Bernard dog she trained well enough to appear in “ Heart of a Child.” In Norway, aboard the Brand VI., Ernest Borgnine switches from his role in “ The Vikings ” to play the part of the butcher in the galley. David Vaughan is shown round the set of “ Wonderful Things " by his father, Frankie Vaughan. Jayne Mansfield celebrated opening her pink swim- ming pool — with pink champagne.
