Picture Show, January 1st, 1921. I ROD LA ROCQUE Tke Star Wko Grew Younger on the Screen. ROD LA ROCQUE, OX the screen Rod La Roequo was old before ho was young ! This sounds rather curious, but it is the truth. He was so often cast for eldorly parts such as General Grant in " According to the Code." Not but what he enjoyed some of these character roles, and Rod considers that very often they are far more difficult than leading man parts. " The hero generally has a pleasant allround time of it, and gets all the praise," ho says, " while the character man has to roally act." Rod La Roeque docs not want to be starred until he has done something which will stand. He says " If I ever do achieve something worth while, and an offer comes along which means more than the title, I'll be glad to have it. In the meantime — well, I'm satisfied." His Chance to Play a Leading Role. ROD LA ROCQUK.S chance to play a leading part came one day when Bryant Washburn was ill, and could not bogin his new picture. The film director did not know what to do until Rod persuaded him (<> let him take the part. Rod certainly mad • good, and he has been playing leads practically ever since. He has played opposito Madge Kennedy, Mabel Normand, Marg\ierite Clark in " Easy to Get," Corinne Griffith, and with Constance Binney in " The Stolen Kiss." Rod has dark eyes and dark wavy hair, and as he is six feet in height, he makes a really ideal hero. He talks with a fascinating drawl, which is probably accounted for by the fact that he was born in Canada. A humorous photograph o! ROD LA ROCQUE as Napoleon. A clever impersonation. ROD LA ROCQUE a3 Theodore Roosevelt.
