Synopsis (Not for Publication)
Lieut. Smith (Bill Williams), an American in the French Foreign Legion, is serving in the Sahara Desert in Algeria under the tyranni
* cal command of Capt. Marcheck (Kurt Kreuger). Marcheck actually
is plotting with his native clerk, Karaba (Joseph Abdullah), to turn against the French and form an alliance with the dread Berbers. Smith, always at swords point with Marcheck, is assigned by his superior, Marcheck, to take a patrol from the remote outpost and report to Colonel Lesperance (George Baxter) at Sidi-bel-Abbes. Marcheck and Karaba plot with the natives under the command of Garabi (Hal Gerard) to ambush the patrol] but Smith aided by his buddy. Sgt. Calvelli (Anthony Caruso), and his men tight off the atiack. In Sidi-bel-Abbes, Smith is attacked at night by Garabi and another killer but escapes by running into the room of Dalbert Marcheck (Dawn Richard), who wants to find her husband so he will sign French divorce papers. Smith is unaware of Dalbert's
“identity and they fall in love that same night. Next morning, how
ever, Lesperance orders Smith to let Dalbert join his patrol so she can visit her husband at the outpost. Also in the party is a correspondent, Brodie (Tom Hubbard), who is writing stories on the Legion. When the patrol reaches the outpost, Marcheck tells his wife she’ cannot have a divorce.and continues with his treacherous plans against the French. He weakens the garrison by sending a strong detachment to a fort and this group is almost immediately wiped out. He wears, down his limited force by sending the men on almost continuous 24-hour desert patrols despite Smith's protests. Brodie, however, forces the hands of Marcheck and Karaba when he recognizes the native as a noted native leader. He passes the word to Smith, but Karaba overhears the conversation. He and Marcheck overpower Smith, but in a game of wits Smith goads Karaba into killing Marcheck. There is a terrific fight but Karaba escapes into the desert and organizes his Berbers for an all-out attack on the garrison. Smith, however, marches his men into the desert to atack the Berber ammunition dump. There is a terrific battle and against tremendous odds the Legionaires slaughter the Berbers. Karaba is killed and Smith returns to Dalbert.
