STORY (Not for Publication) A green replacement, Martin (Lon McCallister) watches tough Sgt. Fletcher (John Ireland) as he destroys an enemy pillbox on a Korean hillside and, later, smashes an enemy roadblock. Martin himself is kept out of combat by Fletcher and not even the platoon’s medic (George E. Stone) can curb his resentment. When Fletcher is ordered out to clean out snipers, with Martin and two other replacements, a seasoned soldier, Gordon, (Hal March) tags along, as does the medic, who is killed. Fletcher exposes himself as a target to the last sniper, giving Martin and Gordon a chance to shoot. Gordon’s gun jams. Martin kills the sniper; he has finally grown up to be a soldier in Fletcher’s eyes. MEET THE DOGFACES... Yi ...
