Tomorrow marks the start of the “Stanley Kramer Hit” contest, which offers as prizes guest tickets to the latest — and, reportedly, the greatest—of Kramer’s film hits, “Death of a Salesman,” during its engagement at the State Theatre starting Friday. “Death of a Salesman,” starring Fredric March, is based on the stage play by Arthur Miller— the play which won the Pulitzer Prize, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, and just about every other award possible for a stage presentation to achieve. The most honored play in recent theatre history, “Death of a Salesman” was produced by Stanley Kramer for Columbia Pictures, the latest of the impressive films which have made the young producer’s name a_ by word for movietime magic. Starting with “Champion,” and _ continuing with ‘‘Home of the Brave,” “The Men,” and “Cyrano de _ Bergerac,” Kramer has rung the entertainment bell each time. Each day, for four days starting tomorrow, this newspaper will publish a photograph from a Stanley Kramer hit. Contestants will be asked to name the male star and the film represented, and to tell, in 25 words or less, why he thinks Stanley Kramer’s pictures are so popular. All answers become the property of the State Theatre. The 10 best entries submitted each day will be awarded a pair of guest tickets to see “Death of a Salesman” during its local premiere engagement at the State Theatre starting Friday.
