LOBSTER TRICKS e Asa Maine lobster-shipper in the film, Doris Day has an unusual household pet: a huge, live lobster named Sam. Use Still No. 73, from your National Screen set, picturing Miss Day holding Sam, as Jack Lemmon kisses her cheek, to spark an Unusual Pet Contest. Go after newspaper, radio and TV support to announce the affair with town youngsters instructed to bring their strange pets to the theatre and compete for promoted prizes and guest tickets. Try, too, for a tie-up with the local distributor of pet foods, who can advertise the contest and provide additional awards. Many sea food restaurants display live lobsters in their windows, usually in salt water tanks. If possible, borrow one of these tanks, with one large lobster inside, for a spot-lighted lobby display. Post a card that it’s a relative of Sam in the picture, or a “stand-in” for the pet. Letter the name “Sam” on the lobster’s shell and post theatre-picture credits on the rear of the transparent tank. Make certain every sea food restaurant and fish store in the city ties in with your playdate via displays of stills and exploitation stunts. Restaurants should have napkins imprinted with pic ture copy and lobster art and feature special “Jane” sea food dishes.
