Caidin has been associated with the Mercury, Gemini and related space programs as a government consultant, newsman and broadcaster. To establish complete accuracy in his novel, “Marooned,” Caidin worked closely with Thomas F. Heinsheimer, one of the designers of the Mercury-Atlas abort system and a member of the design team for Apollo guidance at M.I.T. To insure complete accuracy in the film version of “Marooned,” Caidin worked closely with George Smith, who was on leave from North American Rockwell where he worked with the Apollo Program. An alumna of the Stratford, Conn., Shakespeare’ Festival, Miss Hartley was seasoned as an actress by appearing in many Shakespearean roles, there and on tours all over the country. While visiting California, she was persuaded to test for a role in a western: “Ride the High Country,” starring Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott. The film turned out to be a sleeper.
