PEOPLE STOPPERS lf you have access to a continuous 16mm projector in your town get it in the window of the record store or put it in front of the theatre or in the lobby. Use some of the film clips listed on page 3 of the pressbook. CELEBRITY HUNT Is there a Big Game hunter in your town? Ora jungle explorer? Have private safaris into the jungle been made by any of your citizens? They may be good for some unusual publicity in the way of radio interviews, news stories, or a personal appearance at your theatre. MERCHANT WINDOW DISPLAYS WITH TOYS getting bigger and more life-size, a two-way Toy Shop tie-up is suggested. Arrange for a store window display of their largest animal toys... with a theatre credit card and stills. In return, put in your lobby a display of the same toys, with a credit card for the toy merchants. To further attract attention, use your PA system to carry jungle rhythms to your marquee. PET STORES selling birds and tropical fish are another possibility for a window display. They can call attention to any rare birds or finny beauties they have. TIE-INS WITH MUSEUMS NATURE STUDENTS...Naturalist organizations and natural science departments of schools will find much of interest in ‘‘The Jungle Book” and they should be especially informed of your showing. Schools should be kept advised of any contests and provided with story material for the school paper. Also supply them with stills for display with nature study books in the school library. NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUMS, in addition to stills, should be provided with stories to be used in any literature they may publish...and also for bulletin boards. MYSTERY VOICE RADIO CONTEST A 7" disc has been prepared featuring the voices of Phil Harris, Louis Prima, Sebastian Cabot, George Sanders and Sterling Holloway. A number of comedy dialogue excerpts by each of the five stars from ‘‘The Jungle Book”’ have been selected. Work out a contest with a radio station whereby they would play a different mystery voice from ‘‘The Jungle Book,”’ each hour during the day for several days. When the listeners feel they have correctly identified the voices they would mail a postcard to the station. This contest was promoted by KFWB in Hollywood. Here is a script which was used by the station and how the contest can be handled on the air: LIVE 1: After more than three years in the making, Walt Disney’s most exciting animated feature motion picture is coming soon. It’s the Jungle Book —and, here is how you could attend a screening of this delightful picture. Just guess the identity of our mystery voice.: (CUT 1): (Contents) ‘Man, That’s what | call a swingin’ party.” LIVE 1: Our mystery voice plays the part of Baloo the fun loving bear. Here he is again.: (CUT 2): (Contents) ‘Man, That’s what | call a swingin’ party.” LIVE 1: The first (x number) of people who guess his identity will receive invitations for two to Walt Disney’s ‘Jungle Book’’, (date and theatre Copy). Send your guess to: Jungle Book, (Radio Station-Your town). This is a quick recap of the Jungle Book promotion: 1. KFWB ran sixty 45 second promotional announcements on behalf of the Jungle Book campaign. 2. KFWB placed Jungle Book posters in the stations lobby window for a period of one week. THE MOWGLI-BALOO MAZE Add variety to your contests and promotions. Make up a herald using The Jungle Book Maze shown in the ad pad. Order the mat from the Buena Vista Specialty Department in New York. Imprint heralds with it on one side and one of the larger ads on the other. Tie-in with supermarkets and department stores. COLORING CONTEST An effective way to reach the kids is through the coloring contest tied-in and promoted by an art supply or stationery store. Run the contest in the local paper or use it on heralds. Mats in 3 columns or herald size are available from National Screen. Award one of the record albums for the best entry. ENTERTAINMENT FILM CLIPS Television entertainment film clips are of proven value to your local campaign. A large percentage of the stations carrying commercials for Disney films also use the entertainment film clips. And many stations run them more than once! Take advantage of this wonderful acceptance by making sure your local television station is supplied with “The Jungle Book’’ film clips well in advance, with suggestions from you on how to program it.
