Producer director Larry Lansburgh took his location filming crews to the blue grass country of Kentucky for initial sequences in the picture. Here they filmed harness training and horse auctions at two of the most famous breeding farms in the United States, Castleton, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Van Lennup, and Walnut Hall Farm, owned by Colonel and Mrs. Willis Nichols, Jr. After shooting several race scenes at Lexington Trots track, the crew moved to Boston and some tricky sequences in which the equine star, Jolly Roger, actually had to learn the routine and rigamarole of a mounted police horse on the city’s noisy, cobbled streets. The next stop for the barnstorming movie-makers was Eleven Mile Corners, Arizona, a rugged stretch of desert between Phoenix and Tucson and the home of the Ak Chin Indian Tribe. There they filmed the highlights of a county fair and an exciting race between the fast trotter and a Model A full of In Mat TAT-2B STARRING TRIO... In real life, he has won his share of trotting races on eastern and midwestern tracks. This Buena Vista release was produced and directed by Larry Lansburgh and narrated by Keith Andes. Back in the Saddle for Disney Larry Lansburgh, who has twice produced Oscar-winning featurettes for Walt Disney, is back with another, about horses cco humans, that will be released as “The Tattooed Police orse.” His Academy hits were “The Wetback Hound” and “The Horse with the Flying Tail.” The newest story is about a trotter who becomes a champion ated he is taught discipline by a captain of the Boston Mounted olice. Born in San Francisco the son of famous architect, G. Albert Lansburgh, Larry learned to ride at the age of six. During his teens, Larry became an all-around rider equally proficient at showing and competing in rodeos. Later, Larry became interested in the cattle business and got a job as a wrangler on a Texas cattle ranch. Next, followed a hazardous tour of duty as a special deputy for the Texas Rangers, then to Hollywood and work as a stunt rider. He did quite well until an injury landed him in the hospital for two years. It was there that he began writing and studying the motion picture business. Once out of the hospital he did some exhibition riding at the Riviera Country Club where Walt Disney played polo. Walt was impressed and put him to work as a messenger boy. Larry proceeded to learn the The three professional actors who star in Walt Disney’s exciting Technicolor featurette, “The Tattooed Police Horse,” may not be “big*names,” but they are certainly some of the best equestrians who ever donned grease paint. Beautiful, blonde Shirley Skiles, a former Chicago photographer’s model and socialite, plays a wealthy horse fancier. She “discovers” Disney’s equine hero, Jolly Roger, a trotter, at an auction, loses track of him for a year, then re-discovers him as a police horse. A top show rider and jumper, Shirley has dignity and wholesome beauty to enhance her innate talent. Sandy Sanders has the difficult task of portraying a mounted police captain who puts Jolly Roger through his paces on the heavily-trafficked, narrow streets of Boston. A veteran of dozens of western movies and television shows, Sandy is not only a fine actor, but one of the best all-around riders in the United States. His equestrian talents made him a favorite with real mounted policemen who play themselves in the picture. Charles Seel plays a trainerdriver of trotters whose faith in Jolly Roger wipes out his savings. He got his start with D. W.
