SPOTS FEATURE LAUGH
A hilariously executed series of radio and television spots is one of the highlights of the full-scale campaign in behalf of Twentieth Century-Fox’s uproarious comedy, ‘‘A Private’s Affair,”’ in CinemaScope. Using the stars of the picture themselves, Gary Crosby, Sal Mineo and a host of others in ‘bit parts,’’ the radio and television spots are a mad funfest of ‘‘selling power’ to the teenagers and adults of your town. Listen to Sal Mineo, beating out the rhythm on his bongo drums, calling out the cast, keeping time with the bright, swinging tempo of the happy score by Jimmy McHugh, Jay Livingstone and Ray Evans. ‘‘A Private’s Affair’’ is for you .. . for your audience, for your family. A series of no less than 6 radio campaigns-in-one. This customary set of 2-60second, 2-30's and 2-20-second spots are available on one disc, complete with script. An entirely new feature in radio promotion advertising, and one that is so radically different from the practiced methods as to be revolutionary, is now offered to you as an additional effect to your campaign on ‘‘A Private’s Affair.’ We call this special disc a ‘‘Promotion-Advertising Record.’’ Containing portions of all three songs from the film, as taken directly from the sound-track itself, and sung by the actual performers in the film: Gary Crosby, Sal Mineo, Barry Coe, Christine Carere, Terry Moore and Barbara Eden, a specially prepared disc jockey introduction precedes the opening song. This record is for restricted use: please follow these instructions exactly: Use this disc, which is 45 rpm., only on disc jockey shows, and only in conjunction with PAID RADIO ADVERTISING as a package deal with your local radio station. You will find this record a tremendous tool with which to sell your teenage audience. It is equally valuable as a lobby record, for which it may be also used. All spot advertising records, as well as the special promotional recording are available FREE from:
TV SPOTS SELL YOUNG STARS
The television spot campaign consists of a
‘lively minute’ of scenes from the singing, dancing affair, featuring Gary Crosby, Sal Mineo, Christine Carere, Terry Moore and many, many others. In addition to the 60second spot, we have produced a 20-second film based on the above. All spots are yours for the asking as is always the policy. Order your concentrated, concise ‘‘hard sell’ radio and television campaign on Twentieth Century-Fox’s color by DeLuxe musical ‘A Pri
vate’s Affair’’ now. Write:

“Privates Affair” a Natural for Special Army Screenings
TELOP TV CAMPAIGN OFFERS PARADE OF LAUGHS AND LOVE
For Station Break
‘‘Nobody has more fun than privates in love’’ is the lead line from the advertisting copy of one of the funniest motion pictures of the year. The telop will carry your sales message right into your audience's homes. Reach your potential where they live. These special frames contain all the gaiety, all the humor and charm of the film in an inexpensive and direct point-of-saie approach.
Mr. Exhibitor, take a tip from the promotion-minded publicity-exploitation departments of Twentieth Century-Fox where another first in showmanship has been scored. The San Francisco Presidio will be the set for an unprecedented
screening for ARMY PRIVATES ONLY. Production chief Buddy Adler will head a glittering array of stars from the CinemaScope comedy, plus an important group of national writers and magazine critics, to the Presidio to attend this screening. After a top coverage dinner, or ‘‘mess,’’ with the stars from ‘A Private’s Affair,’ the entire entourage will see the uproarious David Weisbart-Raoul Walsh spoof about the misadventures of three Gls. The gimmick is that 20th will ‘‘set-up’’ and ‘‘catch-in-the-act,’’ the Commanding Officer trying to ‘‘sneak’’ in to see the film. Why not attempt the same thing in your area? This is a natural stunt, and can be exploited to the hilt. Use the same technique on the local level. Contact your local armed forces base public affairs officer (also known as public information officer), and offer this tie-up with your special restricted-to-Privates screening as a recruiting magnet in their base area. “‘A Private’s Affair’? was produced with the cooperation of the United States Army. Make sure your local officer knows this. Set up your screening the way 20th has, and you are sure to attract much talk, word-of-mouth reaction and news cover
