SYNOPSIS (Not For Publication) Four Navy SeaBees land on a South Pacific island during World War II to survey the atoll for a possible U. S. air base. With orders to avoid any Japanese troops and to effect the survey unnoticed, the men are told a PT boat will rendezvous off shore two days later. Equipped with Burp guns, grenades and survey equipment, the four SeaBees are Lt. Dave (JOHN LUPTON), CPO George (JAMES EDWARDS), Jim (BRETT HELSEY) and Cip (JOHN BRINKLEY). Hard-pressed by pursuing Japs, they hide in a pond while they hurry across. As they reach the comparative safety of the bank, Jim is wounded in the ; hend. The small party stops | long enough to give Jim’s wound a hasty dressing and double back to the pond, where they manage to lose their pursurers. Meanwhile, George also wounded has crawled into a crevasse near the Japanese camp and lies unconscious as a Jap draftsman rapes a native girl | (ZIVA RODMANN) forced to wait on the camp. Later, at great personal risk and considerable beatings, the girl manages to smuggle some food to the hunger-weakened Seabee. Seizing a moment when all of the Japs are out of camp, George painfully makes his way into camp—steals the Jap blueprints of the island and manages to booby-trap the chair with a grenade. When the Jap returns and finds his papers gone, he sounds an alarm. George gives the girl covering fire with his burp gun as she escapes moments before the booby traped chair explodes killing the remaining Japs in the camp. Using his gun as a cane and supported by the girl, George makes his way back to their landing raft. The other SeaBees, hearing the shots, fight their way back to the raft, managing to kill all pursuing Jap troops except one and demolishing a radio shack. The one surviving Jap manages to swim under water and bayonet Jim as the SeaBees attempt to escape. Jim’s screams warn Cip and Dave. During their flight, Dave is attacked by the Jap, but is rescued by Cip.
