EXHIBITOR’S CAMPAIGN SHEET “THE SON OF ROBIN HOOD” AN ARGO PRODUCTION RELEASED BY TWENTIETH CENTURY-FOX FILM CORP. Marius Goring, June Laverick and Al Hedison plan to fight for freedom in this scene from Twentieth Century-Fox’s “The Son of Robin Hood,” now at the.... Theatre. Mat 2A Ducal Estate Robin Hood’ Backdrop (production feature) The green fields of England served as the setting for Twentieth Century-Fox’s “The Son of Robin Hood,” coming .... to the.... Theatre. The spectacular production needed a lavish outdoor background and producer Jack Lamont and director George Sherman took full advantage of England’s brightest weather to film the story against the forests and lush fields of Northern Britain. Telling a new chapter of the famed Robin Hood legend brought the cast and crew to the forests of Devonshire, near to the spot where the famed hero-outlaw is said to have lived. By special permission of Her Majesty’s Game Preserve, the film unit was allowed to set up its CinemaScope cameras for the action. In addition, an exact replica of a medieval torture chamber was constructed to add to the film’s authenticity. Another of the problems the company faced was the need for a castle with the same type of Norman architecture prevalent in the days of King Richard. But luck prevailed and near the filming site, the castie of the illustrious Duke of Northumberland was discovered. The Duke, whose use of the castle is now limited to occasional hunting parties, gladly offered the use of the castle and grounds— complete with an underground tunnel to “The Son of Robin Hood” company. Many residents of the area will be doubly glad of seeing the production because of the pleasure they had in watching the actual filming deep near where the actual Sherwood Forest existed. “The Son of Robin Hood” is an Argo production and stars handsome Al Hedison in his third film role. | Synopsis At a meeting in Sherwood Forest, to rally the remnants of | Robin Hood’s old Band to the Cause of the Boy Prince, his Regent, the Earl of Chester (Marius Goring), is told that Robin is dead, but that his son, | | Deering, is shortly arriving from abroad to resume their leadership. His life is saved by the timely intervention of a young | boy, whom Jamie is subsequently intrigued to find, turns out to be a girl (June Laverick). Little John (George Woodbridge) arrives and is equally amazed to discover that she is Deering Hood, not Robin’s son, but his daughter. Doubting whether the outlaws would rally to the leadership of a girl, Little John persuades | Jamie to pose as Robin’s expected son, with the real Deering as his page. Repeated surprise attacks by the Duke’s men convince Jamie that someone inside the castle is betraying them. In an effort to discover the traitor, he conceives a daring plan to infiltrate the castle. After several close calls he leads the men of Sherwood Forest into the castle and overthrows the Black Duke, thus freeing the Regeant. Eight months before producerdirector George Sherman engaged a top flight production crew and cast, a battery of English researchers from Great Britain’s top universities—Oxford, Cambridge, Eaton—explored all data pertaining to the fearless and courageous Robin Hood. These scholars bypassed the usual, the common story of the man who “stole from the rich to give to the poor.” It was the presence of a son, a son who was dedicated to a father’s cause, recorded in volumes of English history, in which they were interested. To play the role of Jamie, brother of the Prince Regent, who is rescued from a band of plotters against the throne, is Al Hedison, the handsome young actor who soared to fame via his critically-acclaimed performances in “The Enemy Below” and “The Fly,” 20th’s shock-drama which was hailed for its dramatic impact. Hedison, a former star of the Broadway stage, is topcast with England’s beautiful June Laverick, David Farrar and the distinguished Marius Goring. Al Hedison became the local hero to countless number of ‘fon vacation” school children during the filming of Twentieth Century-Fox’s adventure drama, “The Son of Robin Hood.” While not engaged in actual filming, the handsome star was surrounded by young admirers who plagued him to teach them the intricacies of the bow and arrow and sword. —O— During shooting of Twentieth Century-Fox’s adventure drama, “The Son of Robin Hood,” the school children of Wimbledon Common who followed the production organized a club called “Sons of Robin Hood” whose sole aim is, based on the legend of the original Robin Hood, “to do good.” ———()-— When David Farrar who stars in Twentieth Century-Fox’s adventure drama, “The Son of Robin Hood,” was called upon unexpectedly to re-shoot a scene, the assistant director found a note in the star’s dressing room that read simply, “The Black Duke has gone golfing,” Farrar’s character name in the production.
