Nanny wasnt ras onsig/e Young Joey (William Dix), the Fane’s ten-year-old son, is due home from aan a School for Disturbed Children where he has been undergoing treatment ever since that tumultuous day, two years ago, when he was accused of WAS SHE7 drowning his baby sister, Susy, in the bathtub. When Joey arrives home, he shows a marked dislike for Nanny, and re fuses to let her touch him, cook for him, and especially bathe him. Joey’s Se had heen hatred for Nanny soon upsets the household, and then suddenly, his father ! , is called away ona business trip. Wi the family Joey makes friends with Bobbie (Pamela Franklin), a pert fourteen-year: old daughter of the doctor in the apartment upstairs. Joey confides in her | lor years. and tells her that Nanny killed little Susy. The next day, Nanny is called away from the kitchen where she is making Then, [wo hed individual meat pies for Joey and his mother. That night his mother is rushed to the hospital with an acute case of food poisoning. Joey, who is accused mysteriously of trying to poison his mother, refuses to stay in the house alone with Nanny, and two and sends for his Auntie Pen (Jill Bennett), who suffers from a heart ailment. Joey again refuses to take a bath until Nanny promises, in front of Pen, to stay out of the bathroom. Pen falls asleep, but is awakened by Joey, who, clutching a towel, claims that Nanny tried to push him under the water. fevorl Pen scoffs at his story. Later in the night, Pen awakens and goes to the kitchen to make coffee. a ee , : On her way she spots Nanny, standing in front of Joey’s door with a pillow. Suddenly, Pen is aware of the awful truth, and in the ensuing struggle, suffers a heart attack. While Pen is dying, Nanny confesses that she killed Susy by mistake, and now must kill Joey to keep him from incriminating her. She is afraid 2 that someday, someone will believe Joey. Century-Fox After Pen dies, Nanny attacks Joey, knocks him cold, and carries him to presents the bathroom. She turns on the water, and when the bathtub is filled, throws Joey in. Then suddenly, she is assailed by the sheer horror of what she is doing. She drags Joey out of the tub and then falis om her knees. In this moment, all the regrets and disappointments of a lifetime sweep over her, and it is far too much for one little old lady to bear.
