20th century-fox m exhibitor’s campaign manual Synopsis “The Young Swingers” deals with a dancing and entertainment club known as The Vanguard, founded by a group of young entertainers as a showcase for their talents. The leader and manager is Mel Hudson (ROD LAUREN), a singer; Pete Mundy (JACK LARSON), a young comedian and mimic; Fred Lewis (GENE McDANIELS), a colored singer and college student; Judi and Ken (KAREN GUNDERSON and JOHN MERRITT) a folk singing duo billed as The Sherwoods; and a band (BOBBY HARRIS SEXTET). The picture opens in The Vanguard well attended by swinging youngsters enjoying the groovy arrangements of “Come to the Party” belted by the band. In the audience is Roberta Crawford (JO HELTON), a real estate tycoon who gives orders to her attorney, Bruce Webster (JUSTIN S ° 4 / | | F parcels of property she has bought with the plan of erect KOCK N ROLL... A that they have an iron-clad lease and will not move. Upon learning of the situation, Miss Crawford orders + Webster to break the lease in any way he can. She also tells x her pretty niece, Vicki Crawford (MOLLY BEE), to see that Webster carries out her commands while she is in San Francisco. Before leaving she announces her plans for Vicki’s 21st birthday party without consulting her as usual. Mel arrives at the Crawford estate to see if he can work out something with Miss Crawford. Instead he meets Vicki, with whom he has an argument. When he returns to the club, he is informed by Pete that an electrical inspector has cited them for a violation, faulty wiring behind the refreshment bar. That night Vicki comes to The Vanguard with an arrogant, well-to-do boy friend, Roger Kelly (JERRY SUMMERS). Roger gets obstreperous when he finds the club doesn’t sell liquor, and Mel and Pete throw him out. Mel sits with Vicki and is getting acquainted when the power suddenly goes off. Pete joins Mel and Fred in the darkened office, and after checking out any possible fuse trouble they call the company to find out that the power was turned off under orders from Webster. Vicki, Mel and Pete hang around the dark club listening to music by radio. Pete leaves, and while Mel is out locking STARRING up the club, Vicki sings “Come A ‘Runnin’ ” to an imagiROD MOLLY GENE JACK THE nary audience. Vicki stays with Judi and sings at the club. Miss Crawford and Webster go to the club to persuade Vicki to return home.
