SYNOPSIS (Not for Publication)
Friday Foster (PAM GRIER), New York highfashion model-turned-photographer, is preparing for a New Year’s Eve party when she receives a call with an urgent assignment from her boss, Monk Riley (JULIUS HARRIS), editor of Glance Magazine. She is to cover the plane arrival of Blake Tarr (THALMUS RASULALA), black billionaire industrialist. Just before leaving she receives another call, this time from her best friend, premiere-model Cloris Boston (ROSALIND MILES), who seems distraught and unusually depressed when Friday tells her that she won’t be able to come to her.
After inveigling herself past security at the airport, Friday selects a strategic spot from which to photograph Tarr’s arrival. Suddenly, all hell breaks loose as would-be assassins wound the disembarking mogul and guards open fire in retaliation. Caught in the furious crossfire, Friday still manages to keep firing away with her camera, capturing the action. In rushing back to her office to develop the dramatic photos, she crashes headlong into Yarbro (CARL WEATHERS), leader of the hitmen; who is making his escape. Another, who later turns out to be Cloris’ lover Chet Freed (TONY BRUBAKER) also escapes, though mortally wounded.
The next day, as she is leaving home to cover the year’s biggest fashion show run by Madame Rena (EARTHA KITT), Friday encounters Fancy (TED LANGE), the town’s top pimp who has, for years, been trying to recruit her by means of many expensive gifts. However, only Cleve (TIERRE TURNER), her little brother, takes Fancy seriously because he appropriates the presents to set himself up in business.

mediate boss, photographer Shawn North (STAN STRATTON), she runs into an old friend, Colt Hawkins (YAPHET KOTTO), a private investigator. They are shocked when Cloris, in answer to her on-stage call, staggers to the edge of the runway and collapses. A dagger protrudes from her back! Yarbro, who had been present earlier, has disappeared. Cloris, dying in Friday’s arms, is only able to eke out the words “Black Widow,” before expiring. Madame Rena, talking to police Lt. Jake Wayne (EDMUND CAMBRIDGE), implicates a rival designer Ford Malotte (GODFREY CAMBRIDGE), a Washington coutourier.
The following day, when Friday’s picture appears on the front page of the newspaper, Yarbro recognizes her as the photographer who had taken his picture during the airport fight and, posing as a deliveryman, makes an abortive attempt to kill her in her apartment. Later, Lt. Wayne tells a disbelieving Friday that Cloris had been involved with some top-ranking Washington politicians and that Chet has been found dead in her apartment along with large quantities of dope.
At Cloris’ funeral, Friday spots Yarbro leaving from the edge of the crowd and takes off in pursuit of him, appropriating the hearse for the purpose. A wild street chase leads them to an abandoned building where she again escapes Yarbro’s attempt to kill her.
Colt, having recognized a funeral wreath as having come from a ranking black senator, sets out for Washington, reluctantly taking Friday along. This sets them off on a trail of dark political intrigue as they pursue a nefarious plot involving mass assassination and extreme danger to themselves.
