IDEAS TO BOOST YOUR BOXOFFICE
MODEL CARS RACE IN THEATRE LOBBY
Twin motorized model racing cars spinning around plywoodmounted tracks are a proven, sure-fire attention-getter for theatre-front or lobby, especially if accompanied by big-car racing sounds. Models such as the Darlington racing set can be obtained from hobby dealers carrying Revell products. One of the layouts could be programmed on a pre-set pattern or operated by ‘‘Miss Speedway”’ or by a local racing-car personality or a costumed theatre usher. The other layout would be free for the use of the public, and participants would be invited to try their hands at beating the expert racer.

SPONSORSHIP OF “SPEEDWAY RACE
If a sports car track is available in your area, a tie-in can probably be arranged for the track to promote “‘Speedway”’, including mention in its own radio, TV and newspaper advertising, in return for sponsorship of one of the races, furnishing of a trophy, or promotion of the track in the theatre lobby and advertising. Don’t forget racing clubs, whose officers and members will probably be happy to cooperate.

RACING FLAGS AND PENNANTS
Checkered flags and other racing pennants cued to the Charlotte 600 can be used to bring excitement to the theatre lobby or front, especially with ‘‘Speedway”’ sounds and Elvis records are played over the outside PA system. Some discretion should be used as to volume, of course, as racing car noises are
penetrating.
TOY TIE-INS
Model sports or other racing cars can usually be borrowed from toy or hobby dealers in return for a small printed card somewhere in the lobby display. A varied display of model cars, spotlighted in the theatre lobby along with checkered racing flags and pennants, and placed well in advance of the opening of the picture, will do much to interest patrons and passersby in the coming attraction.
